Boutique Vibe, Community Pulse, Waves for Every Level

Boutique Vibe, Community Pulse, Waves for Every Level

From the outside, it feels like a mini tropical resort: palm-shaded pool, lush gardens, and contemporary architecture softened by traditional Indonesian touches. All of it set against a backdrop of rolling green hills that capture the slow, natural beauty of Lombok. But the real magic lies in the rhythm. Every detail is designed to help you progress in the water, feel good in your body, and connect (genuinely) with the people around you.

With just 40 beds and an adults-only policy, the vibe is social but never forced. When you’re not surfing, join a sunset trip, sip a cold Bintang by the pool, or gather around the table for one of the family-style dinners. Others find their flow in quiet corners of the garden or on solo walks to nearby beaches. There’s space to connect, and space to simply be.

This isn’t a party hostel, nor is it a strict retreat. It’s a surf-focused stay that gets the essentials right: great surf, real progression, warm people, clean design, and an atmosphere so easygoing that staying longer feels like the only sensible choice.

Rooms

LMBK’s rooms feel intentionally designed for downtime between sessions. Five categories range from private rooms with breezy terraces to polished shared dorms that feel more boutique than backpacker. Interiors are a study in calm: rattan textures, soft wood finishes, plenty of natural light, and just enough greenery spilling in from the outside. Everything is air-conditioned, and rain showers bring a welcome hit of tropical indulgence.

Private rooms (Segar, Mawi, Ekas) come with plush beds, and your own outdoor space—perfect for morning coffee or post-surf downtime. They're ideal for solo travelers seeking calm, couples on a getaway, or anyone who wants a little extra breathing room between sessions. Mawi and Ekas even offer space to work remotely without compromising the island feel.

For more social surfers, LMBK's luxury 4- and 6-bed dorms are a step up from the usual. Big, comfortable beds, plenty of personal space, and spacious bathrooms make shared living feel easy. Also, you're never far from the pool.

No matter your room, everything is included: the full surf package, daily breakfast, and bi-weekly family-style dinners. It’s surf lodge living done right: clean, comfortable, and effortlessly cool.

Food & Drinks

Breakfasts at LMBK are a small pleasure under the palms: smoothie bowls bright with tropical fruit, breakfast wraps, or eggs made just how you like them. It’s hearty and healthy; not just fuel for surf, but a reason to linger a little longer by the pool.

Twice a week, everyone gathers for communal dinner. Picture long tables, buffet with Indonesian favourites and international comfort food, and that easy camaraderie that comes after a day in the ocean. It’s relaxed, organic, and friendly.

Outside those times the kitchen closes, by design. You are encouraged to explore the Kuta’s eclectic mix of warungs, wood-fired pizza joints, and smoothie bars. The LMBK team are always ready with a recommendation.

Drinks are always available at the bar: iced lattes, kombucha, coconuts, cold beer, or cocktails for sundown. The bar area doubles as a social hub, but if you prefer quiet, there are plenty of shaded corners to disappear into.

In short: simple pleasures, done well.

Wellness

LMBK's wellness program is designed to complement surf training. Friday afternoons feature Surf Recovery Yoga, a mellow, stretch-focused class targeting tired shoulders, hips, and backs. You’ll learn surf-specific movements: simple, effective tools you can take home with you.

On Tuesdays, the Surf Fit Class at nearby Loka Gym is all about better surfing. This 30-minute workout is designed to improve mobility, core strength, balance, coordination, and pop up. Each session ends with breath-work exercises to help prepare mind and body for a wave hold-down.

Surfing

Surfing at LMBK is taken seriously. The structured rhythm includes three days of double surf sessions and four days of single sessions. This is complemented by photo and video analysis, surf-fit conditioning, recovery yoga, and surf theory; all designed to accelerate your progression. Two evenings are spent reviewing your rides: what worked, what to refine. Another dives into the science of paddling, positioning, or duck diving, all delivered with clarity and care.

Every session is guided, every detail intentional. Groups are split by ability, with a maximum of just two students per coach. So whether you’re trimming your first green wave or perfecting your cross-step, you get the attention you need. Gear is fully included, from high-performance shortboards to cruisy 9'2” single fins. And even if you ding a rail or lose a fin, it’s covered.

The breaks around southern Lombok offer something for everyone. Whether you’re learning on the playful beach at Selong Belanak, chasing punchier lines at Ekas, or somewhere in between, you’ll explore Lombok’s best spots. Coaches choose the break daily based on tide, swell, and your goals. They know these waters inside out, and you’ll feel that in the lineup: safe, supported, seen. All transport is included, by car and boat for harder-to-reach reefs.

This isn’t a camp that throws you into the whitewater and hopes for the best. It’s a true coaching program, built for long-term progression. You’ll get waves you can actually surf, and the confidence to go for them.

The People Behind

Matt Mullens and Andrew Irwin bought LMBK mid-pandemic: borders closed, zero tourists, investors walking away. Most would have backed out. They went all in, seeing what others didn’t. They renovated the property, expanded the capacity, and overhauled everything from systems to staff training. When borders reopened, LMBK was ready, and it shows: nearly full occupancy, and stellar reviews.

With a background in artificial intelligence and finance, Matt developed a digital marketing strategy that positioned LMBK as a destination in its own right, attracting surfers from around the world. The strategy boosted occupancy while keeping marketing spend lean, optimising reinvestment into the property, the team, and the overall guest experience.

Drawing on years of living in Indonesia and extensive travel, Andrew recognised LMBK’s untapped potential. His background in small business operations and strong sense of community helped him assemble a team built for efficiency and care. His lifelong passion for surfing and travel shaped a welcoming environment, naturally bringing people together.

Their management philosophy goes well beyond efficiency. Every staff member receives health insurance, performance incentives, and clear paths for growth. Housekeepers have become surf guides and drone pilots; surf coaches who stay a year earn custom boards. The loyalty it creates shows in the guest experience. The duo also gives back to the local surf community, sponsoring Gerupuk BoardRiders and helping young surfers from Ekas travel to national competitions.

Their bold pandemic vision proved correct. Today, guests keep returning and referring friends. A sign that great hospitality starts with investing in people, building strong community ties, and maintaining a long-term perspective.
