Off-grid cabanas where the rainforest meets a perfect point break.
The Osa Peninsula is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. It is remote, and the journey to get there sets the tone. From San José, board a small aircraft for a breathtaking 50-minute flight over lush canopy and ocean. Upon landing at the local airstrip, the Rise Up team picks you up and transfers you along dirt roads through the thick jungle, to the edge of the peninsula.

This is Rise Up's Jungle Escape. A beachfront eco-lodge perched where virgin rainforest meets the Pacific. A few cabanas, maximum eight guests, and an uncrowded right-hand point break peeling at your doorstep. The week is running on a simple loop: improve your surfing, eat, yoga, sleep, repeat.
The format is a seven-night, all-inclusive programme running Saturday to Saturday. Six days of coached surfing with daily video analysis, yoga, breathwork, surf skate sessions, horseback riding, and a weekly visit to a local community.
This is a proper off-the-grid week immersed in nature. You are not here for polished hotel facilities or decorative notions of nature. What you get is a pointbreak almost entirely to yourselves, and a coaching programme that justifies the trip on its own terms. The rest of the world is a long way away. The real low-key luxury.

Rooms
The cabanas are deliberately simple. Think wooden structures built with local materials, each with a private patio and a hammock. The style leans rustic, but the practical details have been thought through. Screening keeps the rooms well sealed and mosquito nets cover the beds, preventing bugs and wildlife intrusions. There are fans rather than air conditioning, but the canopy keeps the rooms shaded and breathable. These are spaces built to breathe with the jungle rather than shut it out.
Shared cabanas suit solo travellers who are happy to connect. Double cabanas suit couples. A few single cabanas are also available for solo travellers who want their own space.
If air conditioning and hotel-grade finishes are non-negotiable, Rise Up's Luxury Escape offer a more polished alternative. Jungle Escape is for people who came to unplug and mean it.

Food & Drinks
There are four meals a day, all prepared fresh by the in-house kitchen: breakfast, lunch, appetisers, and dinner, served family-style in the open-air dining area. The cooking centres on fresh, locally sourced ingredients and avoids processed foods and refined sugars. Expect tropical fruit, grilled fish, proper tacos, and enough variety to keep a week interesting. Dietary requirements, including gluten-free and other intolerances, are handled as standard.
Meals are communal, which at eight guests means community-building happens at the table rather than through organised icebreakers. By day two, the group is already a group.
On Thursdays, the team takes everyone to a local restaurant for a change of scene and a small introduction to the community surrounding the lodge.

Surfing
A right-hand point break peels directly in front of the lodge. Gentle, consistent, uncrowded. Well-suited to longboarders, beginners finding their feet, and intermediates working on fundamentals. On a good day, it can offer long, mellow rides up to 200m. For surfers wanting more push, nearby points offer steeper faces and faster sections when the swell builds.
Rise Up's coaching is the centrepiece. The guest-to-coach ratio stays at 2:1, ensuring personalised attention and guidance. The coaches know every break within range and pick the spot that suits your level and the day's conditions.
The programme includes daily surf coaching. Video analysis four times a week. The programme starts with goal-setting and a personalised coaching map, then builds through beach briefs, and ocean IQ theory. The approach suits beginners through to advanced surfers looking to break through a plateau. All equipment is included, with a wide quiver ranging from longboards to shortboards.
Surf works best here during the green season, from May to August, when southern hemisphere swells arrive with more regularity and power. That is when the points start doing what you came for.

Activities
The wellness programme is designed for surfers. Daily yoga with sessions designed around surfers' bodies: hip openers, shoulder mobility, balance work. Breathwork and mobility sessions round out the routine. And once a week, there is an ice bath and a guided meditation evening. The jungle itself does something that no wellness schedule can replicate: the disorientation of genuine remoteness.
The surrounding nature supplies the rest. Horseback riding along a remote beach. Tree climbing for a different view of the canopy. Waterfall hikes through thick rainforest. Each week also includes a visit to a local community, connecting guests to the place. The schedule is structured but flexible: skip the waterfall or sleep through yoga if the week has caught up with you.

The People Behind
Phil, from Barbados, first came to Nicaragua on a surf trip in 2003 and never fully left. After owning and selling Bigfoot Hostel in León, he headed to the coast to build what became Rise Up. In 2014 he met Corina, Swiss-born, who had left the rolling hills behind for the ocean. Together they laid the groundwork for what Rise Up surf and yoga has become today: a leading surf & yoga retreat in Central America, across Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Barbados.
Rise Up community engagement is backed with actual projects. Its NGO, Rise Up Kids, focuses on children's education in northern Nicaragua and projects have included renovating a school in the region. The team runs a local surf club that teaches community members, many of whom couldn't swim, to ride waves.
